No TC lockup...HELP!

OK, I need some serious help. My TC has been unlocking and locking frequently and the APPS reset has seemed to help it for a while till now. I did the reset today and it's the worst its ever been. It wont even lock up. around 40-55mph it just constantly wham wham wham unlocks and locks constantly. I have to keep it above 55 so it wont do that and it doesnt usually lock up at that speed. If it does it will unlock after a few seconds or under a little load. Is this my APPS or my TC? How much is a new APPS and how hard is it to install? This is really driving me insane and I don't know what to do. Thanks everyone. BTW, the rough idling has cleared up so I dont know if its my injection pump or not. The TC just wont lock up or stay locked up.

Oh unplugged the ez and same thing.

There is a reflash available for this common problem. Do a search and you can find the TSB number. I think it has something to do with the lockup solonoid.. The 98 I had had the same problem.............

This could be caused by electrical noise, a very common problem. Cleaning the battery terminals and other connections might help temporarily. Give DTT a call 1 866 504 4002, they have a noise filter for about $40.

Turns out it started unlocking and locking. So the day I spend the $50 and order the Noise Filter from DTT it stops. I think it may be because i added some tranny fluid but it looked alright. It's so hard to tell where the level is on those things.

I had the lock and unlock problem with my 1999 2500, and I called Advanced Turbo Systems and they faxed me a bullitin on how to fix it by running a new signal wire to the PCM from the APPS. Call ATS and they can sent you the info. They said it is a common problem with Dodge trucks. ATS phone # 1-800-949-6002

you cant do that on a 99 because you are bypassing the cummins ecm. the rewire kit is for the 98.5 and older 12 valve models. i bought a rewire kit and when i went to install it the wire colors did not match. when i did the research i found the 98.5 and newer had an ecm as well as the mopar pcm. the kit is to run a dedicated wire from the mopar pcm to the apps. on the 98.5 12 valve and older you can do this because there is no cummins ecm. i bought the 40 buck capacitor kit from dtt and it seems fine now. we will see how it is through the winter because thats when mine was worse in cold ambient temps.

I would try the flash. That works with most of the trucks I deal with that have this prob. Other things I've found on the ones that the flash didn't help. Hardwired the APPS sensor and used foil tape to shield the wires. Cleaned the alternator terminals and retightened. Sheilded the lift pump and wiring on another. It can take some time to pinpoint this so if your paying to have it done it can get costly. I've also seen input shaft seals cause this so it's not always electrical. You need to watch it with a scan tool and see if there is a command to lock/unlock the clutch.
