no power
I have a 93 D250. Overall the truck is in great shape. It has approx. 186,000+ miles. But when i'm pulling my trailer or 5th wheel, it's all it can do to get me up an incline. What can i tweak/check??

More info needed. How much does the trailer weigh? What gear ratio does you rear axle have? Have you ever tested fuel pressure? The most common thing is for the lift pump (fuel pump in the gas world) to get weak or go out. The Injector Pump is still strong enough to suck fuel from the tank, but it's not intended to, so a bad lift pump left limping along will eventually kill your IP, which is defintiley something you don't want.
Thanks charliez. When I noticed it the flatbed trailer was carrying approx 5 ton of gravel for my driveway, the truck basically stalled trying to make it up the hill. The 5th wheel is pushing 11,000lbs. The truck will will pull it up the same hill but it is dog slow until i reach the top. On the highway it still takes a long time to build up any speed after i have crested a hill. As far as I know the truck is all factory, 3/4 ton automatic extend cab. I'm pretty good with gas engines (prior to fuel injection) but know next to nothing on a diesel and willing to learn, this truck looks like it has no mods on it.
Welcome to the DTR
I would suggest going to the 1st gen forum

There are stickies up top that tell you what to do first. Also please fill out your signature so we know what you have- its under user CP (upper left)
The first thing is make sure you have clean filters- air and fuel
second make sure your getting full travel on the throttle linkage (common cause for no power)
third keep reading- and don't be afraid to ask questions, especially in the first gen forum.
Good luck and happy trucking,
Michael

You gear ratio should be on a label under the hood, on the bottom side of the hood. If it's 4.10, it should be pulling good. if it's 3.5something, it won't pull as well. Those are consideed highway gears. it's what I have. I have about a 9000 lb. 5th wheel. It does ok. I'm sure the 4.10's will take off better, but once i'm rolling, everything is fine.
