Exclamation NO Gauges working on my 98!!!

Went out to do some errands today and went to start my 98 12-valver and realized the gauges are NOT registering!

Meaning, all my "needle" gauges are to the left. All the idiot lights are working just fine. The fuses are all good as well.

When I turn the key to the ON position, the needle gauges WILL move a tiny amount to the right. Maybe 1/8" at the most. The Brake light and the Seat belt minder stay LITE up as well.

Also, the odometer #s are flashing and the odometer does NOT rack up mileage as I'm driving.

What do I need to be checking out ???

Same thing happened to mine once and it was a broken ignition wire when I pulled the underhood fuse box apart

Is there anywhere else ??

I'll pay if someone can send me copies of wiring schematics (via Email). I need to get this fixed.

The service manual in the link I posted has well over 200 pages of schematics. That's the problem with emailing schematics, they are interconnected and can take dozens of pages just for one component.

Have you pulled the gauge cluster out? It could be something as simple as a connector vibrating loose.

Waiting to pull it as a last resort.

I did call my local Dodge Dealer's Service Mgr this afternoon. He's telling me it's most likely an internal problem with the instrument cluster itself.

What does an internal problem in the cluster have to do with the alternator NOT putting out ANYTHING ???

I don't know for sure but on other vehicles the alternator needs sample electricity in order to generate electricity. So if your gauge isn't working all the circuits might not be complete

Did you test the alternator or are you just going by the gauge?

The instrument cluster is not that hard to remove. Do you know anyone with a 98 that would let you try their's?

I had it tested on the vehicle at a local auto parts store.

Haven't tried removing the cluster yet.

Negative on knowing anyone local with a similar truck. Pretty rare around this area.

That's what I was thinking as well.

What is the source for the alternator's "SAMPLE" ?
