"No Bus" message on odometer read out
I've getting a "No Bus" message in the odometer read out along with a "CCD" on the overhead console message center. Also, I everything in the instrument panel is gone out no speedometer, tach, oil pressure, fuel, and temperature, all this with the ABS, Check Engine, Low Fuel, Air Bag, etc. lights coming on in the instrument panel. Before all this happened all of a sudden I was started to get a code 1694 and 1693 but all that cleared and everything was okay. Until just this morning. I would greatly appreciate any help, information, or if anyone out there has had the same problem and knows the solution? Thanks In Advance...

Code 1694 is a "bus communication with engine module" in the 2004 manual (only manual I have). The manual says that likely culprits are aftermarket gadgets like remote starters or communications equipment. It also says the engine has to run for 20 seconds to clear the code (assuming the com failure has been fixed).
Do you have any gadgets on the truck?

The only gadget I did have connected to the vehicle was an EDGE EZ but I no longer have that connected. Initially I thought that may be the problem, but I'm going to check some connections to the ECM. Also, is there a way to check if a sensor is bad?

Guessing by your signature that this is for a 2001 truck. Check the connections on the PCM. It controls most things going to the instrument cluster. Or you might need to get a reflash if all else fails.

I also get the no bus, all instruments go out and lights in dash come on. This happens about every 2 months and goes off and on for about 3 days. !! Couple of years ago i had a jerry rigged power supplied plugged in to the accessory outlet constantly and had this problem most frequently!! Am going to do the on off check right now.

Doesn't work on a 1999.
You have to have it scanned with a scanner, sorry.
Why that year was left out, who knows.
Previous years, you got counted the flashes of the CEL to get the codes.
2000+ you get the actual code readout in the odometer.
1999 you get neither.

Diag for that issue can run much more than 100.00. If the prob is present all the time that will be a great help in diagnosing it. Basically any controller and some sensors can cause the bus to go down. Generally a good place to start is checking the system with a DRB and see which, if any, modules you can communicate with. Another thing to try is to unplug each module and see if the bus comes "alive" when a certain componant is disconnected. I've had anything from clusters, to abs, airbag modules, ctm, shorted five volt on a crank sensor take the bus out causing this to happen. Sometimes you get luck and find it right away.....sometimes your without your truck for a few days.

My '01 does this. And has for the last year or so...... I have found that it's temperature related. When the outside temperature is colder than the garage it happens more, or when it's really hot outside and the garage is 70 or so it'll do it some. It's worse in the winter! I cleaned, put dielectric grease on the pins of the PCM. I have just decided to live with the problem, maybe one day it'll crap out and I'll go buy a new one, $800.00 I think!

I had this problem also. Fixed it by disconnecting wires from computer and putting dielectric grease on them. I think that they were getting moister in the connections.

instrument failure
i had same trouble. read my reply to CODE 7 on the third page of HELP, second item.
seems to be a more common problem for the 2001 model.
good luck, randy smith

There was a wire harness rubbing issue where the harness was rubbing the dipstick tube and will cause this problem. if you see this harness rubbing isolate it and see what happens.
