no blower motor
no blower motor
After replacing the ignition switch electrical portion, I now have no heater blower. I show battery voltage at the connector, and the blower works when I connect it directly to the battery. Any ideas anyone?
Will the blower operate on high speed? If yes it is the speed "resistance wire block" (I forget its proper name). If no go at any switch position than a fuse may have opened when you were working on the ignition switch or you missed a connection. When u checked for voltage at the connector, did u check for the hot to the body of the truck?
no blower motor
I get a test light from the positive battery post to the ground wire at the blower. My meter shows battery voltage at the connector. No blower at any speed.
Just checked it on the lower speeds. I get battery voltage 12vdc on all 3 speeds. Does this indicate the resistor mounted in the A/C case is bad?

The meter u are using may be getting a ghost voltage thru the circut, (it makes the meter read). use a test light. the test light uses voltage and draws amps. a ghost voltage can't light it. Test the test light at the battery and note how bright the light is. Then, connect it to the pins in the plug. Let me know if it lights and at what speeds on the switch and if the light gets dimmer at the lower speeds.

Can u find the connector for the blower motor resistors? If so u need to test, with the test light, from the neg @ battery to the resistor plug. Note that only 1 wire will be hot for the speed selected on the switch. Test all speeds, only 1 wire per speed, 1 selected speed per wire. also with the motor unplugged, using an ohm meter set to 100 ohm scale ( if its selectable ) test the resistors. I don't know the pin layout so u will test all possible combinations. If resistor is good the meter will read a reistance.
I get no light on any post on the resistor connector, my meter registers a momentary resistance to just over 1 ohm on any post then drops off to 0 on 200 ohm scale (don`t have 100). I can`t figure how to get the dash panel off to check the switch.
Taking the new blower back for a refund. Will check back when the frustration level drops some.

I FOUND IT! The connector at the rear of the ignition switch had a burned contact. Burned to the point it would not complete the circuit to the blower.
I wired around it til I can get another connector and splice it in.
Thanks for your help ThunderRoad. I finally found a manual with wiring schematics in it which certainly helps puzzle these things out.
