Leaf in blower motor?

Diesel Gods,
Here's a good one... Lately when I turn on the heater, the blower motor has a growling sound to it. ??? Took in into the dealer(still under warranty) and they found a leaf in the blower motor area??? Isn't that funny? Anyway, they removed the leaf and everything is fine. Love my Cummins. 8) Adios.

Re:Leaf in blower motor?

That has got to be one of the most annoying sounds there are.

You gotta have shade in Mexico when they make them. How else are they gonna stay cool? ;D ;D

At least it wasn't a mouse nest. When you turn on the fan, that can get ugly real quick!

Re:Leaf in blower motor?

the fresh air filter Geno's sells will help keep leafs out of there, and bounce dryer sheets placed in the truck are supposed to keep mice away especially if you have your truck parked for awhile. just a fyi

Re:Leaf in blower motor?

Try this:

In my Ford a few leaves ended up in the little box the blowermotor draws from. It had a small circuit board that was some type of current limiter. The leaves shorted out the board and started a small fire in the box. Filled the cab with smoke several times before I diagnosed it.

Re:Leaf in blower motor?

I used to regularly take the blower box apart on my GMC and my Ford to remove leaves. So far, not my CTD!

Re:Leaf in blower motor?

I had a pine needle in my blower a couple of days ago, was driving me crazy. Just took the three screws holding the squirrel cage housing out, dropped the cage down and pulled out the needle. Just took about three minutes start to finish.

Re:Leaf in blower motor?

I checked out the Geno's air filter setup for the blower, but I thought it might be too restrictive and there other paths that the air could follow to the blower and not be filtered.

I installed stainless steel screen over the opennings in front of the windshield under the black plastic cover and sealed off the other areas. ;D

Re:Leaf in blower motor?

I gotta jerk the blower motor in mine. Sounds like a rattlesnake in there everytime I fire up the blower. Any trick to this other than removing the bolts?

Mine has one in it too. Just waiting for it to dry up enough for the fan to grind it up and blow it out the vents.

[/quote]My concern was that the Cab Fresh filter would be restrictive also but no way. I'm using a Scotty Air Unit, the air for the intake passes though the Cab Fresh as well as vent air with no problem.
Not sure how any cab air could get past it.
Another advantage of the Cab Fresh is that it's easier to brush snow off than the stock setup.

Re:Leaf in blower motor?

infidel,

It's good to hear that the Geno's isn't restrictive. I did the mods. to my truck at least a year ago, so I can't remember all the litttle places I put screen material. The two larger opennings I can remember are the water drains on either side. It's easy to find the other ones when you take the black plastic cover off and feel around in there.
