NG needs help!!! PLEEZZZZZZZZZEEEEEEEEE!!!
I have a '97 5 speed 2500. I sometimes have a problem when I try to start up. I hit the key, and hear "click", and nothing happens. Batteries are good. I bypassed the clutch safety switch but had the same problem just now after turning it off.
Is there a relay in the circuit somewhere? Where and what's it look like? Starter sounds good, doesn't drag.
Any ideas, suggestions?
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sparkky, could very well be the starter contacts, Try Fosters truck parts for a set of there super contacts, easy to replace and solves a lot of problems with these starters.

Thank ya fellas, I think you have solved the problem!! I will be contacting Fosters Monday!! I want to get this resolved with winter coming on.
Larry, thanks for the wallet advice. I will guard it like my virgin daughter.
I'm not too concerned with changing anything, just keeping it going!! The engine was overhauled (before I bought it) by Dodge and the warrenty just expired last month. So I have almost a new 97 Cummins engine. Now if I can just keep the Dodge tranny and body together!!!
Thanks again folks!!!!!!

Got the parts, just finished putting them in. Hardest part was figuring what size/type bolts held it on. Was 10mm, 12 point socket head.
Thanks for the help!!!! One contact was burnt paper thin.

And now,,,,,,,,,,,page 2.
I thought long and hard about not pulling the battery cables. In real life I am a "sparkky", union commercial/industrial electrician with 20+ years experience, so I do things "hot" just about everyday and know how to deal with it. But decided to be a good boy and pull them anyway.
After being unhooked about 3 hours, to my amazements, I still had the presets on the factory radio!!! Internal battery/capacitor backup I suppose.I HATE LOSING PRESETS on the radio, clock, etc.!!!!!!!!!!!!!WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
More info for the next guy;
Had to get the top mounting bolt from the bottom. arms too short to get it from the top. Had to use a swivel joint on the socket.
The bottom, passenger side bolt was a piece of cake. The bottom, drivers side bolt was quite another story. Couldn't get a socket with a swivel on it, not enough clearance. A 3/8" breakover bar (small one) "may" work, but I headed off to the hardware store and found a 7" 10mm combination wrench with 12 pt. on the box end that worked VERY well.
Was going to change the bolts to a hex head metric but they didn't have any hardened ones so I put the originals back in for now.
That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!!
