new water pump, overheated, on side of road
I just put a new gates water pump in the 05. lost about a gallon of coolant during the swap, and headed to the local truck shop for a couple of gallons. truck overheated. is this a burp problem?

Air pocket in head, try pulling plug in top of cylinder head. Plug is toward the front of head, then add coolant until coolant comes out. Wait until engine cools down and there is no pressure in radiator. Be careful on a hot engine. You most likely put the radiator cap back on before the t-stat had opened. This allowed the air to stay trapped in the head. Pulling the plug will allow all the air to vent out from cylinder head without having to wait for the t-stat to open which could take a long time on a diesel engine when not under a load. I been replacing 2 or 3 pumps a day sometimes and that works for me without having any overheat problem from air pocket in head.

Got it. That worked well enough to get home. It's not air free yet, so Tue temp is a little jumpy, but at least o got the coolant and can bleed of completely tomorrow.
