new tranny

I've never experienced this problem before so hope someone else will know whats goin on. i just had transmission rebuilt and put a valve body and suncoast torque converter in it. Put tranny back in yesterday afternoon and filled up with fluid. Goin through gears and checking fluid seemed to go in gear fine so backed out of garage-reverse is fine- put in drive and truck will pull down like I'm standin on the brake and giving it throttle. It does seem to shift maybe but then it drops back to first gear. Put it in neutral back in drive and alright for another 10 - 15ft. and does it again. Now put it in first and it is like something is in a bind again but wont even move.

Reverse is always operating fine it is just in forward gears. My first thought was kickdown not adjusted right adjusted it since it was a little loose and same problem as before, so i am lost. Oh this is not the truck in my sig. It is a 97 (new project)

Any help is appreciated greatly! Thanks Rob

ilvdslsmk,

I have no experience with the Dodge automatics so I'm only speaking from general Automatic transmission theory. Your description of it seeming to "pull down like I'm standin on the brake and giving it throttle" sounds similar to a situation I experienced years ago when a transmission was trying to engage 2 different gears at once.

The first thing that I'd try is to pull the valve body and make sure that the valves move freely (not stuck) and make sure that the gasket is not broken letting fluid into an incorrect passage. Beyond the valvebody, you probably need to talk to whoever rebuilt your transmission.

'Fraid that's all I can suggest. Good luck.
