Own a 1999 3500 5.9 24V Cummins that died on me today. Replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump, but the truck still doesn't run. When we go to start it, it turns over but idles really low, like it's about to die. When you push the throttle pedal, nothing happens. Any suggestions? We were due to trade this on Friday! Thanks in advance...

 

Might be stupid but are you sure that you got all the air out of the lines after you changed the pump and filter. I know these trucks hate air.

 

Yep - just got done doing that again, cracked 1 and 3 while the wife started her...still just idles real slowly. What started this whole mess is it just died on me no warning as I pulled into work. When I started it back up, got the slow idle, and changing the filter and pump didn't change anything. Other ideas?

 

did you try bleeding it at the injector pump?

 

Sounds like the same thing my 99 did, died while i was cruising down the road at regular speed, all the sudden i had no power and when i stopped it died. Started it back up and only a bad idle. Once i got it home tried to mess with it some more it got to the point where it wouldn't start at all. Ended up being the injection pump. Your truck probably threw some codes so that may tell you more, try that next.
