Need Ujoint help, ASAP!
Apparently when AAM came on board, they changed the overall width of the U-joints, see attached site, but here is the excerpt that deals with it, I think its just a conspiracy to buy mopar parts. But I'm willing to bet that is what you were seeing. Or you did like I did on my front driveshaft, and knocked a needle over when slipping the cap on.
"AAM Universal Joint Fit: Starting with the 2003 model year, Dodge driveshafts are supplied by American Axle Manufacturing (AAM) instead of Dana-Spicer. The 2003-2004 front shafts used the same joints as 2000-2002, but the rear shafts and 2005-up front shafts use AAM series joints that have a .010" smaller snap ring lockup dimension when compared to Spicer series universal joints. The reason for this is unknown to us, but probably is intended to force you, the Dodge truck owner to buy your u-joints from the Dodge dealer. Only one aftermarket company has released joints to fit AAM yokes as of March 2007."

I cant find the threads I saw them in before, to post the info about people shaving down the cap/rings to fit...
Looks like ill be shaving down the retainers, or tacking them in with a welder
, im not going to swap them back out for mopar u-joints anytime soon
It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!

It is not often that a u-joint sticks this tight, but it happens occasionally. Have a suggestion for you.
Place the exposed portion of bearing (the part that you have already pushed thru the yoke) in the vise and clamp firmly. Support the rest of the shaft or have a buddy hold it. If possible apply a bit of heat to the yoke, even if it is a propane torch. Try to keep the heat away from the bearing cap.
Now use a very thin, long tapered chisel and pound it between the yoke and the vise. The thinner the better (& the longest taper) to apply maximum pressure between the jaws of the vise and the yoke. As long as the cap does out slip out of the vice, that should pull it out.
Let us know when you win and what you did to win.
