i have a 96 2500 and i was driving it down the road when it all of the sudden stalled out on me, at first i thought i ran it out of diesel but there was still lots of diesel in the tank. so i tried starting it and it would start but as soon as the key was released from start position it stalled. the tow truck driver tied a string to a toggle swtich on the side of the block below the injectors to hold the switch open and it ran but didnt shift on the freeway into high gear(seemed like it had no power) i had no speedo or no tach...any idea where the electrical problem lies?

If the truck is an automatic, which the symptoms would indicate regarding shifting, you have likely lost the solenoid that provides power to the fuel shutoff solenoid, or have burned starter solenoid contacts. Either situation will create the problem you describe.
