Now I have a new problem, I am trying to replace the starter on a 1999 3500, man trans.

My problem is what kind of bolts are holding the starter in, I thought they were star heads, but none of my star sockets work.

Any help would eappreciated!

Id bet their TOREX bolts then.

 

If I remember correctly they are just 12 point heads. You need a box end wrench (if it will fit in there) or a regular 12 point socket. Most of the "cheap" socket sets are 12 points.

 

Yup, 10 mm 12 point (3 of the). Need a universal and long extension to get at the top bolt.

 

Sears sells a 10 mm box wrench about 8" long, I used it and a 12" pipe extension to loosen the top bolt. It's a bear.

 

Some guys have had to use a snipe and a bottle jack to break it free.

Ahh, I've never heard a cheater bar called a snipe before. The only two thing I know of as snipes are the birds you hunt (you only go once unless you are a knucklehead), and engineers on a ship.

 

Did my starter with nothing more than a set of ratcheting box end wrenches, a.k.a. God's gift to gearheads.

 

What ever happened to just calling it a cheater?.....lol...thats a first for me.
