Need help on hard start

Well my buddy put about 25 dollars in fuel at a little convenient store until he made it to the big town to fill up. Well as he pulled off onto the highway his truck started jumping spitting and sputtering and just died. So he called me and i went out at 5:00 am and pulled him back home and when i opened the release valve from the fuel filter canister it was nothing but water. So the next day after work we kept flipping the ignition and letting the fuel drain from the canister and went and got some diesel clean and bought ten gallons of diesel and a new fuel filter and got everything changed, and then it started right up and ran good as new. Well its been about two weeks now and now his truck tanks about 5 or 10 seconds to finally start up. I helped him change the filter again and it is hard to start and we did the key cycle three times and have no codes. Could we be dealing with bad injectors because of the water in the fuel? Also his water in fuel light never came on. the truck is a 2005 2500 4x4 with the G56. 6 speed manual. No chips or intake all stock. Any help would be great.

I'm no expert on the newer trucks but my first thought would be fuel bleeding back into the tank. Is it hard to start only when it's been sitting for a while or is it also hard to start right after it's been shut off? If it's only hard to start after sitting for a period of time, it might be losing it's prime.

sounds like injector problem could be losing pressure which is a sign of a bad injector bleeding off

you have isolate each injector and mesure the returned fuel its easier to let the dealer do it
