Need help with fuel leak.
Need help with fuel leak.
Hey all.
I was filling up at the pump last night with the truck ideleing and as I toped off the tank about a galllon of fuel rushed out. then it slowed down. I thought maybe its just the filler neck or that air return line in the neck and the hose got lose or something. So after I got home this morniing I took a look. All thats good. What it is is the fuel return/sending lines in the fuel pump module (that white plastic thing on the top of the tank) I think its the return line because 1 the truck runes and 2 it seems to be a smaller diamiter. Its the line on the left closest to the center of the fuel pump module. The line seems to have broken free where it enters the module. Can I replace just those set of lines? in the book the picture looks almost like its a seperate peice that can maybe be unscrewed? Or do I need to replace the whole stupid thing? and does anyone know whats involved? my tanks full now can I just lower it some or do I have to remove it and all the lines to get this done? I can sit up under the bed and look at it over the frame rail.
Thanks everyone
Chris

If the return line has completely broken free you would be leaking really a lot of fuel in a short time with the engine running. When my return line up by the engine decided to cut loose it wasn't even a complete break but rather a crack, I lost 35 gallons of fuel in less than half an hour of driving.
There are two other ports on top of the module, one is a vent that should be open though I've seen some with a short length of opened ended hose attached. The other a port is for an additional fuel supply, it should have a rubber plug on it.

the return line where it goes in to the fitting is rusted through. but part of the line still goes through that fitting very lossly so most of the return fuel is spraying back into the tank. I guess from vibrateing around some of it is missing the small hole and going over the sides. I need to see if I can get just that part or the whole dumb thing
