Massachusetts Engines

Need a Little Hellllllllllllllp: Bought a leftover 2004 and it has the
CA.MA.NY.VT engine. This is not a HO 600. My question is, does this truck have the quiet engine or the rattler engine? This is first diesel and I will pick it up tomorrow. I don't know nothing and truck was brought in from out of state. I don't care about noise but my wife does. Any help will be appreciated. Get truck tomorrow at 3PM. I looked in forums and couldn't find engine differences but this is all new to me. Thanks for any help.

Pete,

You have the quiet engine - it uses Common Rail fuel injection and DC started to build them in 2003. There is LOTS of reading on this and other sites that will give you more Cummins education than you could ever want. I hope you enjoy your new truck.

Thanks Dr Evil, what a relief. First diesel will arrive at dealers for pickup tomorrow. Towed a 30' Wildcat with a Ram 1500 and I can't wait for the first trip on Friday. Only 6 miles to CG so shouldn't hurt the breakin. Thanks for helping a genuine newbie to diesels.
