Horn starts blowing on its own ?!!!!!!!!
Horn starts blowing on its own ?!!!!!!!!
It has happened mor ethan a few times. WHen the outside temperature is hot , I will be inside and my horn starts blowing constantly until I hit the steering wheel horn or sometimes disconnect batteries. It happened last winter when it was very cold as well. My neighbors are almost as sick of it as I am.
Any ideas ?........ I'm goin NUTZ !!!!!!!!

I had this problem on my ol' '85. The horn contacts were held to the backside of the steering wheel cover by plastic pins that had been melted and mushed down to hold the contacts in place. Over time the mushed over plastic broke off some of the pins and the horn would blow by itself if the truck was parked in the sun. I ended up taking the horn switch apart and replacing the pins with tiny screws.
It's also possible that the contacts are bent due to over-enthusiastic horn blowing. My little sister did that to my mom's station wagon once.

If wannadiesel's response wasn't the solution, and whacking on the horn button on the steering wheel resolves it when it's happening, must be the horn contacts, what happens if you remove the horn button for a day or two when the problem seems worse?

I took a look at the steering wheel and am wondering how to get to the "contacts" or any horn related wires with the cruise control and air bag stuffed into it ?
Any HELP is appreciated and thank you wannadiesel for pointing me in the right direction so far.
