need help
yes you can, with our help. vp44 is the injection pump. their in the 1000 dollar range and take you 3-5 hours to change out(the first time it can be done in under 2 by some). you will also need a lift pump $150- $500 depending which way you go. AND need to put on that fuel gauge while you at it(if you don't already have one) the instructions are here some where just search for it, or some one will post a link soon
LP - absolutely, the FASS and WALBRO both have rave reviews, both will be around $600, the FASS II (pump only, no fancy filtration) will be somewhere around $400...
AS for the VP, there is a standard and a "HRVP" (I think that is what it is called, for Hot Rod VP?) - there have been many mentions of the FedEx electronics package, which is apparently an upgrade to the OEM stuff, and is apparently notably more robust than OEM.
If you do not have one, install a FP gauge at the same time you are doing the swapping of your pumps!

as far as I know, all ip are rebuilt. (even at the dealer), and they all have the updated electronics on them. You just dont want to get a black one, their from over seas and not as good. I would stick with some one like Gus or Doug both members here, and have good prices. As for the LP I would do something different, it depends on your skill, and budget. You need a fuel presure gauge bad.
There are many places to get the new VP from, check out our site advertisers, I think you will need to do a lengthy investigation to compare prices....
As for the FASS, check out the "parent site" at http://www.dieselpp.com, they have a dealer locater there.
A reminder: Gauges! Especially the fuel pressure gauge, which may prevent a recurrence, although the better LP will give you notable margin to this issue...
