Need ECM help with conversion
Hello,
We're taking an 04.5/6-speed out of a rolled truck and putting it into a GMC.
Unfortunately, the original truck had the immobilizer and the electrical guy has had a lot of trouble getting everything talking again. He may have failed to start enough times to disable the ECM.
So now, we're trying to figure out what to do next. The options seem to be:
a) get a new ECM and program it from scratch - though naturally we'll need to use a VIN number that the Dodge dealer's system believes doesn't have the security option!
b) see if the original ECM can be reprogrammed to work w/o the immobilizer.
c) try and put a Cummins ECM and wiring harness on the engine
d) ???
The local Dodge (Lithia, I think) dealer is nice enough, but has little interest in 'helping' for anything less than their standard hourly ($$$) rate.
BTW, we've spent a lot of time with the wrecking yard, Dodge, and even the regional Cummins rep (e.g. it's not stolen, in case you're wondering).
Anyone have experience here?
Thanks,
Mark
P.S. - Feel free to e-mail or call, we're stuck!! 360/608-4149 Could be worth some beer

Do you have the rolled truck?
Do you have the keys from the rolled truck?
The grey keys communicate with the Immobilizer Module which is located in the steering column near the ignition switch.
If moving that stuff over to the new truck isn't an option then ask your dealer if the computer can be reprogrammed to turn off the security system.

Yes, we have the key and the security/immobilizer module .. when they took it to the dealer they tried to update the software to get everything in sync (VIN, key PIN, etc). For some reason they weren't able to pull it off. They even picked up a new key and tried encoding the unit for the new one.
I don't know if they needed the dash/console part also, or if there was a wiring problem, or ?
Since it's an unusual circumstance, the dealership doesn't have a lot of experience to fall back upon. Dodge doesn't seem to make their engineers available for hacks like us!
