Try auto parts stores like NAPA, or hit the "recycling" yards for a used one.

They are hard to come by because they rarely fail.
Don't be surprised if the dealer is your only option.
Most times a used one still needs to be reprogrammed by the dearer for your specific setup.

as from what you say, i believe it needs to be reprogrammed!

does the truck need to be brought to the dealer for it, or, simply the vehicle VIN (serial number) ?

and another question. someone told me i need to know if its federal emission or california emission, how can i find out what my truck is?

thanks!

The sticker under the hood should tell you if it is ca emmissions.

The only one I had reprogrammed the dealer said the whole truck needed to be brought in.
I found out later they removed the PCM and took it to the Cummins dealer down the street to be reprogrammed.

we sent our old computer in for core, and ordered a new one, gave him our serial number (vin) and vehicle description, hopefully it will work!

does that have to do with: that the truck doesnt take of in 1st gear? it takes of in 2nd or so!

Have we established why you think you need a PCM? Is it because of tranny shifting problems?

YES!

the tranny doesnt take overdrive, no gauges inside work! the alternator doesnt charge the battery, the A/C doesnt work!

And a shop near here told me it was the PCM! I guess they tested it...
but I dont know! they ssid the truck doesnt come with the right one. it has a 97 PCM! (different dash!)

OK, that does sound like a PCM could be the culprit. Hate to second guess you, but we have seen things mis-diagnosed many times before on this site.

Check out car-part.com. There are lots of them on there, cheap. You need to know a few things about the truck, such as what kind of ABS and air bags, but once you narrow it down on the site you can call the supplier and probably get better info from him.

Before you put a new pcm in you better figure out why the old one went, Check your grounds!
