Some of you read recently bout my accident. Well, just found out today that my trans is trashed. Insurance will cover it, but not if they have to buy a new trans cause they can't find a used one. If that happens, they are gonna total the truck and give me less than it's value. The trans guy told me that I basically need a whole trans cause three gears are chipped.

Anybody know where to get one, let me know, thanks.


Also, if anyone can tell me if the newer 6 speed is a direct bolt up. Thanks, Dan

 

I know of a brand new auto for 1500$ out of an 06.

 

Why couldn't a trans shop rebuild yours?

 

I hope all turns out well for you, but remember they have to work with you also. It's not a one way street.

 

Good luck finding an NV5600 trans. They are very hard to find or find parts for...

I just had mine rebiult for $2100. they had another core there and could biuld it for you, if your case is not broke you could use it as a core, if not it would be an extra $800 or so, goolge bayless auto in springfield Mo. and give them a call. If you can't find it let me know and I will dig up a ticket and get a #

 

Now I am starting to wonder if the trans guy is screwing with me on this. He told me that my trans may not even be good enough for a core. Here is what is wrong with it 3rd gear is trashed ...several teeth missing. either first or second has 1 toothe chipped and one of the other gears has a few chips. He says that he would not just replace those gears cause there are probably stressed gears and that he would need all new gears.
??? I don't know what to think. This is why I usually do all my own work on everything.

 

They replaced my input, main, and output shafts along with 5th and 6th gear and had no problem charging me the same price as a reg. over haul. They told me as long as all the parts were there and the case was good, that would be the price. How did the wreck do this to you tranny and not break the case?

 

I hope you are not waiting for a warranty replacement! I am 9 weeks waiting for a rebuilt nv5600 from DC. Still no ETA.

did the car-part and found 1, will have to call and see if it's there. Sometimes the ads are outdated. Not holding my breath.

 

You might try ebay also , since they stopped making those 6 speeds , parts are getting hard to find.

P.S.- i would thing that newer G56 tranny would bolt in there , but i don't know if your T case will bolt up , shfter hole line up , driveshaft length , etc.
