I have seen guys take off the cat and take a steal rod like a peice of rebar and brake out the insides and bolt it back on.

Due to the laws I don't think you will find a shop in that area that will "remove" a cat convertor. Too much liability involved. Now if he were to cut and gut the cat himself, and then take the shell to a muffler shop and request it be welded back in place, they may not have a problem with that.

If he has a Dealer nearby, he could just order a converter test pipe and install it himself.

Just a thought.

Not sure, the list I have doesn't list one for 98.5 and up.
I would think that they might be the same.
Most aftermarket companies list their exhaust parts for
94-02 trucks.
Therefore this leads me to believe that individual components may be the same.
I am not positive on this one, so you may want to check around.

Are you sure it is a catalytic converter? I have a 2000 and just had my exhaust replaced, and it had a resonator that looks like a small muffler ahead of the big muffler. This was Dodges attempt to try and get a gasser quiet ride.
Here is a little reading on the cummins, it talks about the resonator in the 5th paragraph.

Hope this helps.

Get a die grinder and a piece of straight pipe. Just cut it all out and replace with the straight pipe. Did mine yesterday in about an hour and a half. I cant bring myself to roll up the dang windows now!

I just got a 4" silverline system (while at Suncoast) and my wife says it sounds the same to her. And it breathes better now.
