muffler removal

im tryin to take the muffler off my truck and have run into a prob. i have all the hangers disconnected from the muff, but the clamp just in front of the muff pinched the pipe to the point i cant pull it off. anyone ever pulled one off? i hate to resort to a cutting torch as i might decide to put it back on.

You could cut it, and get a coupler that is 4"IDx4"OD and slip it on. Just cut the pipe right at the muff coupler. Not sure if yours is like mine were its 4" from the cat to the muff, since yours has a resonator, im not sure. But all you have to do is measure yours and its the same principle.

Heat the connection red hot with your torch then wiggle it, should pop right off.
I don't like cutting them in case you want to use parts over but if you do use a sawzall.

Only thing you'd be hurtin' is your good standing with the neighbors.

It's too late now, but I just removed my exhaust system and I cut longitudinal slots/slits/cuts in the pipe which made for easy removal. When I reinstalled, the clamps compressed the pipes back together. I used a 1/8" grinding wheel on my 4.5" grinder to make the cuts and was careful to only cut through the outer pipe.
