Loud Bang And Quit
Loud Bang And Quit
I HAVE A 12 VALVE B SERIES CUMMINS WITH MINOR MODS, 6 SPD ALLISON AND 63000 MILES. JUST LEFT HOUSE MADE LOUD POP IN ENGINE THEN QUIT. NOW WON'T START. HAS NOISE IN FRONT OF ENGINE WHILE CRANKING. TIMING GEARS?????
rdflick:
Suspect that you have thrown the KDP (Killer Dowel Pin) that is used to align the timing gear cover if the noise was at the front of the engine. When this pin lets loose it can take a chunk out of the timing gear case, or worse, mess up the gears and cam. Check by examining the timing gear case. See post by gunracer1 in the 12v forum. He has posted a picture of what it can do when it lets loose. Good Luck!

What year is the truck in question?? You state noise in front where the gears are,I would not try to start again til you at least tear into the front gear housing and check the gears on front of block. Goodluck and keep us informed. If you need to know any info on getting into the front gear housing let us know. Rick

The KDP is the smaller/gray dot int the middle of the highlighted section.
That pin will just work it's way forwards, and fall out, right into the gears.

By The Way, 6spd Allison huh? Sounds cool. What do you have the motor/tranny in?
(Typing in all capitols is considered yelling)
