A lot of oil around left front of engine!
A lot of oil around left front of engine!
I replaced the power steering pump and the o-rings on the hoses. No leaks there, but this is engine oil. I replaced the vacuum pump seal and o-ring, and can't find leaks there. When sittin idling in the driveway, there are no leaks. But after driving, there is oil everywhere. Could it all be blowby? I have 170,000 miles on it, and the last fifty thousand (since I've owned it) have been on synthetic oil.
Re:A lot of oil around left front of engine!
I don't know which engine you have but I am guessing it is a 12 valve with so many miles on it. The fuel return lines connect under the injection pump right up against the front of the block, left side.
They rot and start leaking only when the engine is running. They spread diesel fuel all down the side of the block and you can even see it on the tranny pan and frame half way down the truck. No leak will show on the ground.
It looks a good deal like oil when it is all over the engine like this. Check those rubber lines for cracking and pin holes, they are a bear to reach, and if they are bad, replace with a high quality steel braided fuel line.
This may not be your problem, but it is a common one so I thought it was worth your looking into.
Good luck

Re:A lot of oil around left front of engine!
Try some good ol'e Rotella T next oil change. That syn oil likes to find places to escape whenever possible, whereas dino oil is more forgiving when it comes to seal leaks, etc.
It was the high pressure hose!
had my wife turn steering wheel while I watched hose. Fluid was squirting out in two different places! Got a local parts house to remake my hose with hydraulic hose. It's overkill now!
