wrong oil help

After going to the mobil1 website i used their quick product guide where you type in your vehicle and the recomend the oil you need, they recomended the 15w50 supersyn not delvac, that was 25,000 miles ago. I recently sent them an email to get product numbers to switch all lubes to mobil one and they replied with all the different lubes I needed but then said they do not recomend the 15w50 for the engine. And that I should use the delvac, totaly backwards of what they first told me now I have to go to work in ten minutes and don't know if I should keep driving the truck til I get it changed or if I have ruined the engine or not I changed oil every 5,000 miles and don't really do much towing at all so did I ruin my engine or not please help angry is not even close to how I feel right now. HELP

Re:wrong oil help

I'd change it at your earliest convenience...... and we never had this conversation.... : ... ;D

If damage has been done it's too late now, right? Change it out when you get a chance.

Re:wrong oil help

I certainly wouldn't worry about it. Change it when you can. The Cummins isn't that delicate!

Re:wrong oil help

I wouldn't sweat it too much for the short term. I've read where others have used auto oil by mistake, etc with no ill effects. I wouldn't recommend a continual diet of the wrong oil though.

Now if you said you mistakenly put in some GL5 lube in your tranny,... I'd say to dump it ASAP.

Re:wrong oil help

Just thought you guys might like to know I emailed mobil1 about their website screw up and they said that the 15w50 is a diesel oil for certain diesels just not the cummins, and that both oils had excellent additive packages to eliminate any type of harmful deposits in the engine. And it wouldn't damage a Cummins if it was installed but they just said to use what was recommended. So if anyone wants to switch over to mobil1 email them with your service ratings for each type of lube and don't trust the quick search page on their website.
