Lost power and boost is negative!

Ok I was driving 3 days ago and had lots of boost, 26 lbs at wot and 12 lbs at normal driving 65-70 on hiway (rainy conditions). 2 days later I have lost power and boost is in the neg at wot -1 to +1 and at idle -3 or -4 ( cold and dry conditions). I got to thinking wnhat the problem could be so I clampled off the rubber tube to wastegate thinking maybe the gate is sticking. Much to my surprise I got power back and alot of boost 25 or more lbs at wot. Is my wastegate actuator broken? Today no problems at all, clamp removed and truck runs normal, regular boost of up to 20 or 21 lbs as normal. Can I clamp it permanantly or do I need to replace the actuator? Is this covered by warranty ( I have 65k miles on thruck)? I do not have a boost elbow thing (fooler) on my truck but I do run the edge ez box. Thanks for any help as I pull very heavy and need all the power I can get.

Its hard to help when you dont know what your dealing with. Fill in your signature. As for the problem, why dont you use the elbow? It just makes it run better. I dont know why you are seeing negative boost. Matter of fact I dont know a gauge that reads that unless you have a Vacumm/Boost gauge. Was there any unusual noises at the time? Did you check your boot clamps?

Sounds like a sticky wastegate to me. What year is the truck? If you're stock, it will be covered under the 100K warranty. Just take it straight to the dealer if it happens again. Be prepared to fight with them about any gauges you have installed because many look for any way out of warranty work they can, regardless of whether it actually caused the problem.

Katoom I put in my sig for you guys

My gauge reads from 54 neg to 54 positive boost/vac. and it is a combo boost and pyro digital gauge. Hope this helps with my dx of the problem.

Just the opposite. You need to plug it. The rumor is a .22 cal casing with a hole drilled in the end..a very tiny hole, like one of the smaller wire gauge, works. You could also just clamp off your boost hose and effectively disable the wastegate all together. Not a good plan but it works.
