Working on a '00 won't start and found that we have no fuel coming out of the return line off the VP, so took the cap off the filter and pulled the filter and bumped the key lp runs but no fuel.

 

Is there any fuel in the tank? The gauges lie on these. Next I would check the lift pump. Just because it runs does not mean it pumps fuel. The electrical part of the pump could work, but the pump part might have failed. If the pump will pull a vacume then check for air leaks between the pump and the tank.

 

Tank is fuel just filled it, drove truck about 6 miles then shut truck off and wouldn't start after that.

 

There's a bushing that holds the motor shaft to the impeller that broke in the stock LP. Common problem. There's no fix.

 

is that an accurate test? with the lid removed from the filter and bump the key fuel should spray into the canister right? i am asking because i have the same issue.

 

I bet the plastic gear in the pump broke....I have seen way to many, the motor runs but the gears are stripped

 

same thing happening to my 99....water in fuel light came on, dained and put a new filter.....turned key on 3X, could hear it running, but no fuel to filter...thought I only had to worry about the tranny....is it worth going to a summit pump, some say after market is junk.....help
