Leveling kit and 315's = Deathwobble
Leveling kit and 315's = Deathwobble
Put the leveling kit on and got some used 315's and H2 wheels. They replaced my 265's. Truck never had deathwoble but now it does, BAD! My only vehicle and cant hardly drive it. I replaced the track bar with a Moog unit and it still has deathwobble. What other causes are there and what can I do to fix this thing?
dont sound good
did you do the work yourself or have someone else do it? I have about the same setup and mine and have no problems. You could have a big problem caused by a poor install or it could be as simple as a tire being completely out of ballance. I would take it back to whoever did the work and also the tire dealer who mounted your tires. I know it sounds crazy but check the lugnuts and make sure they are tight, these tire guys sometimes get in a hurry and forget to tighten them all the way. Also remember you have to re tourqe new aluminum wheels. Oh ya, Your a texas welder? got any leads on a Lincoln SA 200, 250, or 300?
Tires were mounted and balanced by me. All torque specs done by me. Track bar installed by me. I got under there and the steering components seem really worn when manipulated on at a time, but watching them in unison while the wheels turn they dont seem that bad. I drove all the way to Birmingham from Atlanta and had no problems, as soon as I leave the airport and the bumpy road going back to I20 and it lets go twice in less than 500 yards. The rest of the day it repeated but not while at speed coming back from Birmingham. This morning coming to work it did it four times in 20 miles. I dont know if I should replace the steering components first and then get it aligned or vice versa.
Had the alignment done this morning and the guy said he didnt think that the alignment was the problem but rather the tires. The toe was +1.2 so he set it back to stock. No more deathwobble. I have a shimmy at around 45 mph but nothing like before. I assume the DSS will help with that some and when I get enough cash and gumption I will buy new tires. I am happy with the results as I can at least drive my truck now.
Max out your castor.
Also, check the tires, if you can, if theyre out of round.
A buddy of mine had a set of BFGs on his truck that gave him HORRIBLE DW @65mph~, most violent ive seen.
The tires were used when he bought them, and a little under half tread, but they were out of round BAD.
Bought a new set of tires and hasnt had the problem since...
There are many causes that lead to the same violent shaking of the truck, and oddly enough, people usually have different results to getting rid of the problem...
