Jumping and Jerking
Jumping and Jerking
Help! I've been getting the wrong info from my local guys and I sure could use some help. I have a 98.5 Dodge SLT Quad Cab 4x4, when I pull a load I get a lot of jumping and jerking, mostly at or around 2200 rpm, it isn't always the same, and very hard to describe. Locals have installed a new torque converter and new lift pump.....no improvements.. HELP
Lift pump and aux pump increased fuel pressure to approx. 17 psi. no change in action while towing or?
Had a transmission man do a test drive with no load, got the truck to jerk or whatever a few times and he thought it felt like an engine missing.....
any more thoughts??

I to experienced something like this the other day. I was pulling an empty 2 horse trailer and it felt like my truck was being jerked. I have a 98.5 dually with an auto tranny. My buddy said he thought it was normal, but I didn't think an empty 2 horse could do that. It seemed more like my tranny to me, but I am a newbie at pulling anything so that might be the reason. It seemed better when I had my pony in it, but I could still feel it. I just want to make sure. I will be making a trip from CA to OK and back to CA soon pulling a 4 horse and just want to make sure everything is cool.
Thanks for the posts, I had all the dealer stuff done, reflashed the computer, made no difference. About to take it back to Dodge Dealer and let them take all my money to try and find the problem, I'm afraid to take any long trips pulling my trailer........DARN!!!
Changed the fuel filter, Have banks otto mind installed. and yes the problem has happened since i installed the banks, but I had already driven about 2000 miles before this showed up.
Thanks
Thanks

XLR8R, Yes, it feels like it is missing, not in and out of converter lock, had a transmission guy drive it and he said same thing, feels like an engine miss........almost always at 2100 to 2200 rpm. I sure hope it isn't the injector pump!!! That is all anyone has come up with.
PLOW, Also I am going to unhook the Banks Ottomind box, as soon as I find it....HMMM My mechanic found no codes, and my truck doesn't show coded with key on and off trick...unless I'm doing it wrong.?
Thanks all for the ongoing help, don't stop. I will post if I get it fixed.

My problem solver
I had a very similar problem with my 03, and it got even worse when i put my 150 gpm FASS on. No the FASS itself wasnt a problem but it didnt help. The pickup tubes that go inside of your tank is too small sometimes to feed the demand of a higher flowing fuel pump, but there lies another possible problem with the tube. I have in more than 15-20 cases of people with this similar problem removed the stock pick-up tube and found that there was a filtering sock on the end of it and that the sock had been completely of partially clogged causing a lack of fuel. This happens due to vandlism, bad fuel , or other deposits that are in you tank. But I have also found some trucks dont have these socks on the tube. In those cases I have just replaced the factorytube with a larger tube and that has fixed the problem some of the time. One thing you have to remember is that your fueling system is really basic and there arent too many things that can go wrong that are too hard to figure out.
I will unplug my black boxes today, see what will happen.........also I don't know what the pressure is at 2100 to 2200 rpm, but it only went down to 17psi in our latest test, 25lb of turbo boost.........will try to look at the rpm also next time. I had to find my boxes, they were hidden under the dash where they cannot be seen without taking off the front cover. Seem like a fuel problem to everyone. Can I test the fuel pressure at each injector? and will that tell me anything of value?
