Instructions to Tap manifold

OK, i have drilled the hole in the manifold for the pyro sensor

I have the 1/8" NPT tap

What is the procedure for tapping the hole successfully?
I have a little grease, and a 3/8" socket fits the top of the tap

How do I make sure I don't wiggle the tap so the threads cross up?

thanks

Lots of oil, shop vac to catch shavings, preferably a tap handle and not a socket and rachet. A socket will give you too much leverage. And most importantly, drill a hole in a scrap metal and try it out there first. A broken tap can be a terrible thing to remove.

key is to go slow. turn about a 1/4 turn and back it off do another 1/4 turn and back it off. dont rush it and get greedy or you will break the tap off in the manifold.

Great links, thanks Dr. Evil. The tap went way easier than I thought. I didn't have a tap handle but I used a small ratcheting wrench very carefully. And oil.

tightening the threaded bolt into the manifold, I snugged it down, then gave it a couple of turns, I stopped before it was completely tight because I worried that as soft as the manifold was, I'd strip something. So part of it still sticks up but I've ready that that's ok.

I have a guage question that I'll post under my other thread about the pyro sensors--if I install the sensor but don't hook up the wires yet, do I need to keep the two wires separated? So that they don't touch? And a little more on that subject. Anyways I really appreciate the "walk through" to do the tap.

No It wont hurt if the wires touch as long as there is no power hooked to either one.

Gotcha -- thanks.
So once there's power guess I need to use a heat sleeve on each wire to keep them separate..I received 2 heat sleeves with my kit, I can cut each in half for the connections on either end of the blue wire connecting the guage end to the sensor end

Should I just zip tie the heat sleeves? They are fabric, they don't look like the regular shrink tubing

PLEASE DON'T REPLY HERE! This discussion moved to my thread
Help w/gauge install, might be helpful to someone else someday
