injector pump failure

after having 2 new head gaskets, special fire or c-ring, new ARP head studs put truck back together no fuel to injectors 2 and 3 checkd at pump no go. we have had this nightmare of a truck for 3months it has been sitting for 2 of those waiting for parts. it is a 97 12v 5 speed supposedly really reliable my son, driver, had bigger injectors installed shortly before truck bellied up with blown head gasket, we did find out this truck had the bigger turbo and inj setup before we bought it dealer put it back stock, sort of. he is now saying the injectors caused pump to go out due to hot rodding, as if the guy before didn't, curious he said he had never heard of inj pump going out of 1st gen any ideas?

If it is a 97 it is a 2nd gen truck with the P7100 pump and no, they don't commonly fail.....it it the most reliable pump Dodge has used on the CTD. You must be more specific by what you mean when the pump "went out". Did anybody find out why it was chewing up head gaskets? I'm guessing this truck probably doesn't have a pyro and boost gauge then? You can't turn up the wick on these trucks without them! How about timing? Someone needs to verify the amount of timing advance on this truck....sounds like it might be too far advanced. If by "dealer" you mean DC, get the truck away from there as soon as possible. Most dealers don't employ knowledgable diesel techs and even fewer will have a thorough working knowledge of the P-pump......consider taking the truck to a diesel shop to have the pump properly diagnosed.

the head gaskets are for a fire ring set up and it went through one cuz some dipstick left two broken head studs in ,in fact they jb welded the hole on the one broken in the block. we went back on the car dealer we bought the truck from and he sent it to a friend who has a big truck shop one of the mechanics has some experience,i know we had a thread on here on how to get out studs finally a welding shop got it out hotter wire ...anyway he determined the head and block were too dirty to reuse the gasket we bought so we had to buy another, 148 bucks with no rings. when the guy got it buttoned up it ran like crap so he checked the injectors one by one and the 2 and 3 are getting no fuel...from the pump itself. my son is racking his brain cuz he can't figure how it can go out when the truck ran fine til the head gasket issue and has been parked since late july...dealer says kid ragged on it and caused the fuel pump deal. i don't get that part. so any help answer wise..

Did the kid try running the pump without a cam plate or did it come without one?
This will sometimes damage the pump to the tune of $1200.

i couldn't tell you as far as previous owner but mine didn't. i do know he put the bigger injectors on and slid the fuel plate but he only had them on a short time before he noticed the bubbling in the radiator jug. this truck had many alterations when the head was off we found lots of missing bolts and loose apparatus...loose nut behind the wheel.

Maybe it got hot enough to warp the head? Time to hit up the junkyard or ebay for another pump, or you could have yours diagnosed, at least that's what I would do. There are gauges in it, right?

The 96-98 12V engines are the most reliable versions of the Cummins engine. Problems like this do not happen from normal use - sounds to me like this truck has been abused by previous owner(s)
