igniton switch/ relay help
i was driving my truck last nite and could smell plastic melting....a few seconds later the water in fuel lite and wait to start lite came on while the truck was running. I made it home and strated searching for the problem,i cycled through the ignition a few times and smoke came out, then truck wouldn't do anything.Took the bad ignition switch out today, replaced it with a new one and it still won't start.I have power door locks and the blower motor will come on but no wait to start lite and will not crank,i have checked rthe fuses but i really don't know where else to look.....please help....thanx
You should go to the user control pannel and fill in the truck info , to get answers .
Do you have a test light , check circuts for loss of power , did you check both fuse / relay locations , very from truck to truck yr/mdl , follow hot wire from ing. sw. to fuse / relay .
Look under hood at starter wires , if a 12v , some times the starter solinoid will spot weld inside and burn up fuel cut off , again truck info .

Do not remember the last time I looked at the 93 , lots of changes in 94 , but there should 1 at least maybe 2 , on the drivers side , medium wires , about 8 gage wire , they are made of an aloy that melts easy , so that they act like a fuse [ fuseable link ] about 4-6 inches long , if you give a light tug on them they should be solid , no give , if there is a little stretch then the is a break / burn . use a meter bat. grd . then the sharp probe to poke through the insulation to look for power also .
I Have Checked All The Fuses In The Fuse Block And They Are Good...i Have Over 12 Volts Coming Out Of The Ignition Switch, but It Drops Down To 0 When You Hold It To Start, none Of The Accesories Inside Work Except Bower Motor

The fuseable links come off the + batt. term. , the wire that loses power in the start pos. , are you sure that is the wire to stater ? The acc. wire , is loses its power in start pos. so that all the power goes to starter , so if your on the acc wire when the power goes away , thats as it should be . but not the start wire , if it is the start wire thats loseing power , than you found your problum .
Remember the start circut and the acc are two different circuts .

The fusible links are right next to the relays on the driver's fender. They split into 4 wires coming off a rubber splitter doo-hickie. One line going in, 4 coming out the other side, downstream from the battery. They can look good and still not do anything. You will need a test meter, I believe. Sorry I cant be more help.

okay...i found the fusible links....i am thinking one might be bad...not quite sure yet......as far as the starter relay,i looked at the pictures on the link and it is different that the one i have, all 3 relays i have are the black plastic style. This thing is so aggravating.John you were correct about the power and acc. wire....thank you for your help with that part. If one of the fusible links is bad would that cause the wait to start light, water in fuel light, radio and starter not to work?
