I need some help in verifying my problem with my truck. I Have the same symptoms as others on the 0 RPM, No power.
My check engine light is on and I need to know how to get the codes and read them. Please point me in the right direction.

Thanks, Michael

As I understand it, you cycle the ignition 3 times then leave it on and you can read the codes off the digital odometer.
Look up the codes here if you don't have a manual:
http://www.diagnosticdialog.com/LookupCode.asp

Chris

I must also say that my Haynes manual states that 98, and up, models must have a Scan tool hooked up to them to get the codes. I don't know if Haynes was forced to say that or not.
If you cannot get the codes with the igniton thing, some auto parts places can access it for you. I know Auto Zone can do it.

Chris

Cool. I guess Haynes was just doing the EPA satisfication thing. I cycled mine but it didn't do anything. I guess I have no codes. ;D

The whole cycle the key and watch the odometer ONLY works on I think '01's and up, possibly '00s but I am postive that it does not apply to the '99s and earlier. The easiest and CHEAPEST way to get the codes, short of buying the $250+ scan tool, is to go to your local Autozone and they will go out to your truck with their handheld scanner and read them off for you. Then they can go and look them up in the thier computer or you can reference them in the Haynes book if you have one.

Hope this helps,
Finally found my problem, like everyone else, the crank pos. sensor died! Replaced it and everything is ok. A friend of mine had a OBDII tool and cleared my codes.
Thanks for the info. BTW, my '99 doesn't show the codes on the odometer. :-(
