Help, what did my Smarty do
Help, what did my Smarty do
OK, I got a Smarty several days ago. I've been playing with the different software settings. This afternoon over lunch, I loaded up SW#6 just to see what it was like. After I got back to my office I figured I'd better turn it back to SW#3. I go through all of the steps, and set #3 to program, seconds later it says Error Comm. Timeout (or something to that effect). I try again, this time it says program was interrupted, turn off key > turn on key > etc. As soon as it starts to return the program to stock, the error message repeats. I've now tried this five times with the same result. Unplugged all connectors several times. Anybody have any ideas what could be happening?
Anybody else have any suggestions??? Should I try to start my truck? I figured I would let it sit a while, then using computer compressed air blew out all of the connections, tried again. Nothing. Its getting late in the day too. Help...
No word back from Bob Wagner yet, I'm concerned I sent the message too late for him to get it today.

ya make sure that your truck is warmed up and the grid heaters are not cycling, causing too low of a voltage for he smarty's liking ?????? shot way down range, and a stiff wind fromthe left, but a shot \./
crisis averted
Still don't know what happened. Hopefully Mike D can shed some light on that tomorrow. I read what the timeout code meant, ECM not responding, and thought oh... sh$%! I just fried my ECM. Becuase I'm not sure exactly how the Smarty works, and still don't, I thought that the old fashion way of resetting the ECM might be dangerous (i.e. did the Smarty "steal" the programming from the computer leaving only bits and pieces). However, after my above thought, I figured nothing to lose. Pulled the neg. terminals, put it back together, plugged in Smarty, and voila, back to stock. Not wanting stock, I went with #3 again, and it will stay there at least through winter.
Barefoot88, I'll forward on info from Bob when received.
mikmaze, when it first happened the truck was still at operating temp (just drove 30 mi), however, that's not a bad idea at all. So far though I haven't done any programming when the truck needed to warm up much.
Thanks folks.

You had a loose battery connection, I had the same thing happen to me a while back. I was freaking out also, thinking I fubared my truck. Went to unhook the batteries and one connection was kinda loose, tightened it and it went ahead and programmed.
