Help ......... Truck will not start

I'm on my way from Ohio to Arkansas. I have a 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 12v, 2x4, auto with only 35k.

Here's my problem .........

After running and then being shut off for like a bathroom break......... upon returning the truck will not start.

All the idiots lights show up and when I go to turn the key its dead. No noise or sound period.

Thanks guys !

Ground or positive connection at the starter terminal? What about a bad solenoid in the starter? Can you try to bridge the solenoid with a screwdriver and see if it turns the engine over?

Could be neutral safety switch. You can jump the solenoid (sp?) With a screwdriver or bit of wire.

If it is an automatic it could be the NSS. Try moving thru all the gears and then start in park or neutral.

If manual, it could be the clutch switch. This you would have to jump.

To start engine you can jump at the starter from battery cable to solenoid wire connection. Small wire. Or you can remove the starter relay and jump pins 87 and 30. Hold wire on pin 87 and just touch pin 30, hot pin. You may see some sparks using either method.
