help torque converter lockup problem
I purchased a new trans from one of the big name tranny guys, I don't want to say who yet I just need some unbiased, input from someone smarter than myself. This trans is the worst purchase I have added to my truck, it was installed in august and since has had 8 converters replaced under waranty the last one I drove the truck 1000 miles to thier shop and had them work on it (they said the replaced trans and converter) and on the trip home it still has problems. 6 of the converters when I would start the truck when it was cold, I would have to wait 5-30 min depending on converter and outside temp before putting it in gear or it would either kill the engine instantly even if I dumped it in gear at wot or it would just smoke like crazy and load the engine harder and harder until it either killed it or I put it back in park. Once it warmed up it would be good for the rest of the day and had no other problems. The other converters including the current one they just installed has lock up problems no matter how light on the throttle or how high mph it will not lockup until I completely let up off the pedal and then it will lock once you are up to freeway speeds I can get in and out of throttle and it works fine until I slow down under 40mph and then it starts all over again. With the od turned off it does the same thing just at lower speeds. The manufacturer also installed lockup controller (trying to fix the problem) and guess what it still does it. I am sorry for the long post I just want you guys to get all the info I can give to hopefully fix the problem, I have not informed the builder it stil has problems I just picked up the truck and they were closed befor I started haveing more trouble. I am wondering about possible cable adjustment or cooler line restrictions, any advice would be greatly apprieciated I would like to get it fixed and not have to call them again.
I think at the second torque convertor I would have wanted the trans back for further testing. Unfortunately this post will most likely turn ugly as it has no other direction to go. We have no pressure readings, or scan tool data to even begin any diag. From your description I would like to place a bet on what color the trans is though....
This can only turn ugly.
Take it up with the transmission manufacturer,
if they've replaced 8 converters, they need to take it apart and see what is happening.
Locking this up, preventative maintenence.
Your only option is with the original manufacturer.
