Help runaway..... Sorta

Guys my truck is sitting on the side of the highway I was driving yesterday and the rpm's hung so i put it in neutral and killed it and then coasted to a stop. I restarted it and the rpm's are hanging at 2500 - 2600. I can pull on the throttle mount on the side of the pump and get the rpm's back down to 1100 So my question is what returns the throttle back to idle I know it has to be a spring but witch on and this ever happen to anyone else? Im going to go pick it up today on a trailer but i need my truck running tonight I need it for work tomorrow.

Assuming it's one of your 12v's, heres a pic of where the return springs are, right behind the power steering pump. http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/Fac...ocations-l.gif
They do wear and occasionally break.
If thats not it, you may have governer spring issues, or the gov arm has stuck below the plate.

As long as the rpm's stay down, it'll be OK. One other thing to check is the linkage cables. Sometimes they will fray and jam.

Not at all.
Thought the problem was corrected by recall by '98 but earlier models were plagued by a frayed throttle cable that causes the same problem. Look right where the cable's sheathing ends by the injection pump for frayed cable not allowing it back in the sheath.
You can check if your truck is eligible for the recall here. You will need your VIN http://www.dodge.com/webselfservice/...m('R')

Ok well I got it fixed. The rod that goes from where the throttle cable connects on the side of the pump to the back of the pump had come loose and spun upside down where it was coming in contact with the bottom of the Shut off solenoid. It’s fixed now. Thanks for the help guys.
