Help Please!!

I was hooking up a BD Cool Down Timer today and I had my covers off my steering column to get at at the wiring harness I needed to tap into etc. I pulled the wiring harness off the column for the one I needed but before I did that I unhooked the wiring harness off the little box above where the key goes which I believe is the sentry system because I thought that was the one I needed. Anyways I plugged it back in, did my wiring for the timer and thought I was all done. Opened the shop doors, jumped in to back it out and pushed the clutch in, turned the key and nothing happened. Dash lights light up like normal but I turn the key and not a thing happens. I used my Smarty to see if there were any codes and sure enough a code that had something to do with my skim key was there.

Anyways, I got the truck to the dealership now and they went through it a little bit today when they got time and they found that a couple fuses were blown and they replaced them and the truck now cranks over, but won't start. They tried a new skim module in the truck and tried programming my keys and still nothing. They couldn't figure it out and now I'm a little worried as to what is wrong. The cool down timer isn't even hooked up right now that its at the dealer so it shouldn't be a concern. What could possibly be wrong with it? Has anyone had this problem?

I would think it would have something to do with theft protection. Did you try disconnecting your batterys for a while. To try and reset your computer?

Check the wiring harness for a short??? if you blew a few fuses you very well could have melted the coating off a wire and is now a dead short...

Then again, stupid question... EVERYTHING plugged back in on the steering coloumn???

Not only melting the wire but any contacts in the circuit also. I would check the wires you tapped into, maybe trace them out or check for continuity, grounds etc. It probably is something fairly simple but finding it may take time. The good thing is you know the area you were working in and it is probably the culprit. Like I said tracing the wires will take time but it will help to use a meter and wiring scematic.

I was into the dealer today and they think they have the problem. The skim sentry box is maybe fried so they tried a new one and tried programming my keys to it but it says the keys are fried too. So they are getting me new keys for the new sentry box which is gonna cost me cuz they won't cover them under warranty i guess.

Sorry to here that...
One question, and if the answer is what I think it is, Others can learn from your mistake...

Q: Did you disconnect the batteries before starting any and all electrical work???

Disconnecting the batteries doesnt always do the trick. If he crossed a wire while they were hooked up he would know. If they were disconnected and he wired the timer in wrong, as soon as he hooked them back up he would have the same problem. I do dash, column and all that wiring stuff at work and the only time i unplug the batt is when i come to air bag wires.

I agree if you mess something up you want to know right away so you can fix it while its still apart and you know where to look.
