help p7100 injection pump
my injection pump plug/timming plug housing threads are striped out. i took the nut off to try and seal it until i can get a new one and the little white plug came out with the nut. i just stuck the white plug back in and it went in easily and is about the same place as far as i can tell. what is the white plug for and is it going to hurt anything?
I think your talking bout the timing pin for the pump. It is a little white pin with a notch on one end. It is designed to key into the pump in a certian position and lock the pump into place. It works in conjunction with the timing pin on the gear housing.
When ulling your injection pump, the process is to barr the engine over untill the timing pin for the pump gear can be pushed in. It locks the gear. Then you go to the pump, remove that small cover, pull out the pump pin and turn it around (it sits inside the pump backwards or disengaged). The one side of the white pin has a notch cut in it. It fits into a groove on the pump in that very same hole. If you look inside that hole when properly timed, you can see the notch I'm reffering to.
Anyways, that locks the pump in the correct position. Now you can pull the pump without fear of losing timing, as the pump is locked in its proper position and the gear is locked in its proper position.
Now, the question is, your plug is stripped or the body of the pump (the part the plug threads into) is stripped?
Have you run the engine? If you did with that plastic pin in the locked position, you probably broke the plastic pin. No biggie though, my biggest worry would be the stripped plug. Is it leaking oil?
I think dodgeram.org has a write up on locking the pump with pics. I'll see if I can locate a link. KD

yes it is leaking oil. it looks like it is just engine oil. the plug is not stripped the piece it screws into is. there are to bolts that look like they hold the piece that the plug screws into on the pump. the white pin looks like it is okay. i got a good look at it when it fell out. does it need to be in there or is it not needed except to lock the pump. bought the truck with kdp cracked case. should probably talk to mechanic that replaced case. he said that he had to pull the pump so he probably stripped the plug housing.is there any way to fix without buying the part the plg screws into?
put paper gasket on plug instead of brass washer then put permatex on gasket. does not appear to be leaking. dodge dealer said i have to get a whole new pump to actually fix problem. any ideas on how to fix.
