P7100 injection pump
P7100 injection pump
I read the following statement last night and can`t find the thread again to verify. It said if you let a 12 valve sit unstarted for a few days that 2 qts of oil would drain out of the injection pump.Is this 2 qts more than the 11qts in filter and crankcase? So if I ck`d the dip stick it would show 2 qts high?
Thanks for any help.
Thanks for any help.
This is just me thinking outloud , but i beleive the oil drains down somewhat faster than a couple days.
The man to ask who would know for sure is Bill (Infidel) seems like if he doesn't know something about a 12v, then almost no one does.

Thanks for the replies guys.
TRCM-I reread that post and that is what I was trying to find.
Also in my owners manual it says the FI pump will hold approx 2 qts of oil for several hours after shutdown and you should ck your oil in the morning and this allows for that oil to drain back and show up on the dip stick. Also says from the low mark to the high mark in the safe range on dip stick is 2 qts.
Sorry for bothering you guys.I am soaking up so much new info I`m not retaining it all.Got a little confused there.
Thanks again. If I hadn`t found this forum,I wouldn`t have had the nerve to try a diesel. It`s nice to know you have all this experience backing you up.

My experience during an oil change is that it takes about two hours for a complete drain due to oil in the pump. Letting your oil drain longer also siphons some out of the filter, no mess when removing it.
I always use 12 quarts in an oil change, comes out a little high on the dipstick but then you aren't stuck with an leftover quart in a gallon jug.
