actually what I am really wondering is since the check engine light is on if that is a result of a tranny problem, or, is there some other problem that may not originate in the tranny that is casused elswhere?
Retrieve the codes.
You can do the key on/off/on/off/on trick and see them flash in the odometer window.
This method is known to now show all the codes though, best to have the codes scanned,
either at the Dealership, or most major auto parts houses (Autozone for one).
Tranny codes and ABS codes are some of the ones that don't always show up without a scanner.

Autozone...
Thanks for the Autozone suggestion. I just called them and they dont do it themselves anymore, BUT, they will "rent" (no charge) with your drivers license. Off I go...
