help!

recently i had my mechanic install a new fuel injection pump along with the fuel pump and filter.Vehicle is 99 dodge 4x4 5.9 liter 5 speed 2500 3/4 ton I drove the truck 10 miles stopped for fuel it wouldn't start or run. It now acts like it did before he put the new pump in and tells me he is still getting the injector pump timing fail code. Any body have an idea?

Just throwing this out there but being a vp-44 engine was the LP bad before the new install? If so this could have ruined the injection pump giving similar problems!

If not the case then I'm at a loss.....I'm a CP-3 3rd gen man myself .

Crack the injectors at the head, if you get little to no fuel the VP is more then likely shot, I would make sure you hear the fuel pump running a verify you car getting fuel at the VP(crack the banjo on the side of the vp coming from the filter)

Could be air. Could be bad lift pump or Ip right out of the box if all codes were cleared. What is the fuel pressure?

If you've only got 10 miles on the repair and it died, I'd be taking it back to whoever did the work. Actually, they would have already came and got it on their dime.

Does the engine crank when you turn the ignition? Or is it completely dead?

99 dodge diesel bad injector pump?

Well here it is April 14 and my 99 dodge diesel is still broke down. The dealer in Spokane said i needed a new Injector pump, cost for fix 2500.00 My Mechanic north of Spokane told me we could get it done for 1500.00 plus some labor. this was 2 months ago. We finally got the injector pump installed, i drove it 10 miles and it quit. the truck is giving no error codes but won' t stay running. The second Mechanic that has it now has sent the pump in for testing, anybody ever had problems like this one? I can't afford to spend another 2000.00 dollars on a new pump.
anyone ever had this problem.

Where did you get your reman pump from?

All Pump rebuilds are not equal, and I am sure someone here can tell you the best VP remanner.

And to answer your question, yes, there have been more than 1 on the 24V forum that got 10 miles or less on a rebuild, fortunately the pump rebuilders always took care of them.

I have read on here to avoid the black colored vp-44 as they were remans from checoslovaquia. It has been a long time since I have seen anything about this though.

The Spokane pump sent the pump to Bosch and found and electrical problem, so they are sending a new one, i am hoping they will be willing to pay for the second install and the tow bill. thanks for your message

thanks for your imput, the Spokane pump has agreed to send another pump, i guess there was an electrical problem with the first new one. I hope they will pay for the second install as well

good deal but in case you missed it, install a fuel pressure gauge, or you'll get bit again, i had 3 stock lift pumps go bad, the original, installed a gauge to save myself future vp44 problems, on stock lift pum lasted a little over 60k, and the last one lasted less than 20K, if the lift pump goes so does the vp....a spensive lesson a bunch of us have learned...so be sure and install a FP gauge
