Help!

Here goes. Trans was rebuilt along with a slew of other things. When we put the trans back in we also put a new pcm in the truck and had a local dealer flash it. The flash took but the truck is throwing the dtc code PO118. This is an ECT sensor. when it throws the code it keeps the truck from shifting into first gear. The truck will take off in second gear. I am looking for some insight here. I have the sensor, but have not installed. The truck isn't supposed to have one. Will the installation of this sensor make my problem go away? If it will, do i have to install it in the side of the block or can i put it in a easier to reach location? Am i on the right track here? I got the truck hopeing that i could fix the issue. I have always loved diesels. Any help you guys can provide me would be greatly appreciated.

Not enough info to really help you.

You say it isn't suppose to have a coolant sensor?? But you want to add it and make it work with the computer??

Your trans is going into limp home mode.
Was a shift kit put in it?
What pressures is it running? There should be more codes set if it is doing this.Do you know what was done to the transmission?

I was going to add the sensor so that the pcm seen it. Hoping that it would allow the truck to function properly. As far as i know it was a stock rebuild. I dont know what pressures it is running or how to figure that out. The idea was to rebuild the trans and put the truck on the road. when we put it back together it was doing this. What other info do you need? That is the only code it is throwing. A friend of mine has a 97 3500. We can put his pcm in the truck and it shifts fine. I think its the pcm. Thats why i was hoping that a simple sensor would make this all go away.

If it didn't come with the sensor, you shouldn't need it to run properly. I'd yell at the dealer (just what I like to do). If another PCM worked, I'd vote your new one is the problem, improper program or year setup. Was there anything wrong with the old computer? Have you talked to the dealer (hopefully a Dodge dealer?)?

Who rebuilt the tranny? Improper pressures will keep it from going into first gear. Need a service manual on the tranny for the pressures required on the test ports. You also need 2 good gauges to properly test, as some pressures reach almost 300 psi. I have a manual somewhere if you're interested in the details, I'd check with the dealer first though.
