Does it try to turn over? Just click? Do you have power at the selenoid? Do you have power at the starter when the key is turned?

Not sure what your jumping , so to start fresh , use a test lite to see if you get power at the small wire at the starter , that wire comes form the ing switch , if there is power its the starter or battery connections - or + .
If no power then next the ingnition switch , but this is where it can splits off to other things [ not enough info in you sig. , M.T. or A.T. ] but both are sending power to the ing.sw. through a nutrual safety sw. ,
Start at those and see .

Ok.aaahhh,
Is the ignition switch bad? If you bridged something with a screwdriver, perhaps you have a bad starter relay in the fuse box, or your ignition is wonkey....wonkey...a technical term.

I hate electrical gremlins

If you have a manual transmission, your clutch depressed switch could be bad

If you have a auto...maybe there is an in park sensor that went bad? I hope someone will chime in on this

I have a manual and your symptoms sound like what happens when you don't depress the clutch and try to start the truck...nothing.

are all connections clean and tight,if you cross it and it starts you dont have juice telling the starter to work, check all connectiions are tight and clean, if thats done and no go, i dout the ing. switch is bad, it sounds like a relay or a bad wire connection somewhere.

its gotta be a relay or a fuse somewhere, you wont get juice to it unless its in the start position anyway.

My hunch is the relay...do you hear a "click" when you turn the ignition? The relay will click if the starter soleniod is shot all you will is the relay click. If the relay is shot...you will hear nothing. I had this happen on a gasser once.
