On the 2003-2004.5 trucks with the LP mounted on the engine, they would thow a code when the LP dies.

On the newer & retrofitted trucks with the LP in the tank, I'm not sure. In tank LP failures are rare.

Have you checked the simple things like the air filter and the fuel filter. Is there fuel in the fuel bowl?

i just replaced the Cam shaft sensor on my 06 cuz i'm having the same problems, not sure if its the same as your 07. Mine was located on the drivers side right below the injector pump and had to use a 5 mm allen head to remove it.....its in an extreamly tight spot and it took me almost an hour to take the bolt out and another hour to get it back in. It didn't fix my problem either, it strated back up and i thought it had worked but when i got out on the road it started backfiring and when i got back home it was back to not wanting to idile, when i killed it, it never has fired back up......i think its might be a bad injector if not your lift pump if its anything like mine.

Thanks for the offer Copenhagen, you'll see my sad Megacab sitting out front of the Dodge dealership in Rock springs if you drive by.

Smokin Out, what codes were you getting? The weird thing about the fan speed code I'm getting is that the fan speed sensor and CPS are wired back to the ECM along with the crank position sensor all together. I'm thinking I might have a short from it wearing out along those wires somewhere. And you are right, it is an absolute PITA to change. Did you have the same symptoms as mine or just a code thrown?

after reading all the suggestions, there is one that has been overloooked.... and that is a bad injector.
if an injector on a common rail engine goes bad you lose pressure on the rest of them causing a no start condition. check your oil and see if it's over full. if it is even a little bit that means an injector is leaking fuel and losing pressure in the common rail.....warranty?????

Can a common rail injector just go from good to bad and cause complete power loss on the highway though? I'm not used to working with common rails at all, I've been raised on mechanical Cats and Cummins.

It was really running fantastic up until the point it died, getting 21-22 mpg at the time doing 70-75 mph and EGT's and boost were good.

from what i've been told , Yes! when an injector blows the f pressure drops and it will run like it's running out of fuel, then when it dies maybe will start but run really weak

injector failure

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

well, i was driving down the i-10 (at about 70 mpg) on my way to Orlando to visit some family for thanksgiving and my truck all of the sudden threw a CEL and starting running like crap and had no power. cycled the key to find out code p2149 popped up. so now i'm stuck on the side of the highway. luckily i had a good friend w/ a gooseneck trailer that was able to come and pick me up. i was 2 hrs away from my house. I've done some searching but i hadn't found any treads where people came back on to let us know what happened to fix their problems. i've checked the connections for the injectors but it didn't change anything.

well, the dealer ended up screwing me on the deal. they said the #5 injector failed and the tech hadn't seen an injector fail like that before so he called dodge or cummins tech department and they told them the only way the injectors fail like that was if it had a tuner on it (which i don't yet). the manager said that he had no prof that it had one so they didn't void the warranty on the truck but they were not going to cover the 1k bill to replace the injector. i think this is BS! they should have paid this, i have done nothing to the truck to cause this. i didn't want to pay for this but i need to get my truck fixed so i could still make it down for the holidays (i'll be in the desert this time next year). so now i've got to try to see if i can get my money reimbursed. this is just frustrating!!!! i'll let ya'll know what happens.

Well, the problem got solved. The camshaft broke just aft of the front cylinder, leaving just 1 cylinder to fire. They pulled the valve cover off and I watched it turn over with 5 cylinders not doing a thing.

I ended up having to leave the truck behind and am flying home because it'll take at least a week to fix.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions guys.

Sorry about the truck.. Hopefully nothing else is wrong, IE: bent valves from piston contact.... Is the repairs under warranty?

That's a first for me as well, perhaps Toyota got the contract to make camshafts? J/K

Supercharged, hang in there man, flukes happen and at least there is no way for them to say a tuner did it......
