Has my injection pump gone bad?

My truck started having no start problems. The lift pump was only building 4-5 lbs of pressure while the engine was cranking and for a few seconds after it was running. After a few seconds it would build to 14 and drop to 5-6 under WOT. I replaced the lift pump and added a vulcan fuel pump relocation kit. Once I got the lines bled and the engine running, it had a flat spot at 1250-1500 rpm under hard acceleration and power at idle was low to the point the engine was going to cut out idling in 2nd gear. Once I shut the truck off the engine won't restart. I tried bleeding the air out of the injector lines but almost no fuel comes out with the nuts backed off several turns. Any ideas?

Matt

check for codes, key on, key off, three times fast, leaving it on the last time. watch your otometer, take down codes, let it go back to mileage before turning off. get back to us.

was that the only one? the 1693 is the companion code. which basically means that you have to take your truck to autozone or a parts store of the like. They will pull your codes for free....

Ok, I have more codes. I tried using my obd-2 software but it doesn't seem to work well on my Dodge. All it showed was a P0382. I got a buddy to loan me a real scan tool and it showed: P1689, P0216, and P0382. Time for a new injection pump. How do i fix the P0382 (heater B malfunction) and P1689 communication failure codes?

CumminsStuff.com is a good place to get a stock rebuild. Other places, such as the one JetPilot runs (can't remember the name), have what are supposed to be "updated" pumps that should last longer. You can ask Shovelhead about it, I believe he has one.

yep, that's not a good code for your vp. Jetpiolt runs PDW, and I've bought a lot of things from him including a pump, and have had good luck with them.
