Hard shifting NV4500
I have this happen a lot without any obvious reasons. I find that it is hard to get in gear if I try to shift immediately after depressing the clutch. I need to wait about 2-3 s with clutch depressed, then it will shift fine.

since you mentioned the clutch slipping I am gonna say it is time for it to come out. then you can see the pilot and replace the slave. gonna be spendy, but after 200k miles it is prolly time......city miles?
the fork should be fine if the throw out is working right, so I would do the disk and press plate...a south bend, pac brake, val air....etc. a throw out and pilot. if you are losing pedal after that I would do the master/slave. you might just be past what the master/slave can do if the disc is shot.
i been looking at south bend, good prices and comes with everying, Each kit includes clutch disc, clutch cover, pilot bearing/bushing, clutch release bearing assembly, clutch alignment tool. That what i was thinking of replacing first. When you say new fork, your mean replace the fork and the throw bearing. SB sell this **Clutch Pivot Ball Kits Chances are if you need a clutch, you also need a new clutch pivot ball and on 1994-up models a new fork retaining spring.**What is this

Ok just when on a 50 mile road test and when fine, then 1 mile from my home, it starts to act up. This is my question, I have a slave go on my gmc, normally when a slave goes, you have dead pedal, or for my gmc it would lose prime, I could shift only gears when the petal came up ( 10 second) when it regain pressure, for that problem I had a small leak. For my dodge I never have dead pedal, always good pressure, all way come up fast after taking my foot off, no 2 or 3 in play at the top. It does not show the classic signs for slave/master failure. My first question can the slave leak internal and bypass the plunger that pushing the fork. ( with is intermitted, time being). Second question, does any one have more info in pilot bearing, what that do, how they fail, symptoms when they fail. Can they be hit or miss? Third question, torquefan said this earlier “Pilot bearing problem is a common possibility too. If it starts to seize, it will tend to keep the input shaft spinning whether the clutch is engaged or not.” I don’t much about pilot bearing, maybe more explanation on this statement. Long posting, I been racking my brain for many days, I had been thinking a lot, nothing is black and white with my truck. Thanks guys for everything, and ones again Merry Christmas

I think its your slave cylinder going out, cause I had the same problems/symptoms when mine went bad. I didn't have a dead pedal on the clutch, it still had pressure, just couldn't shift when it was running.
Robbob4,
Did the cylinder solve your problem? I'm having the same issues and would like to see if that might be what's wrong with mine as well, before I change it out (Slave/master were replaced summer of 2005). Thanks.

I know it's been a while since you posted this problem, but I just happened to read it today. Your post above indicates that your clutch is worn out. That's pretty certain. You may find other problems like the pilot bearing and/or the slave cylinder when you go to replace the clutch, but you DO need to replace the clutch.
Hey guys, thanks for all your help, i replaced my whole HYD, order it from SB. Fix the hard shifting. work like new, just remember from SB, the box is sign only, so make sure you are home or you have to drive across the state to track the ups guy down. And if any of you guys rememeber i was have problems with a code 1689. the only thing i am doing differnt is add power ser( white bottle) to every fill up, has not shut down on me yet, who knows if that was the problem(new low sufer diesel) thanks guys
