On the back side of your alterator, there is 5 nuts holding the wire harness,ASD relay output,Gen Field Driver, ground wire and positive wire,on the back of the alt, starting at the bottom count up, the first just holds the harnes, the second one which goes thru a terminal is the Gen. Field Driver. the third is the ASD relay output,The fourth is Ground wire which is black and whit, the fith is the positive. To test your code problem start with the asd,Whith key on, probe the asd relay at the back of the alt,it should be above 10v min. if that is ok,then go the Gen Back Field, probe it, it too should be above 10v. If both are good then take the all five nuts off and take the harness completly away from alt. remember turn key off and be carefull of the hot and ground, now take your meter and check the ohm beteween the asd and gen field on the back of the alternator,it should be below 5 ohms if not the alternator needs repair{which most likley is the culprit},if it is ok then check the resistance between the Gen Field at the disconnected alter. harnes. it too should be below 5 ohms. Do this and get back with the results. Goodluck, RIck We call them alternators, dodge calls them Gen. Go figure

i dont know what it has to do with it,but on my truck when ever i take out the trans. relay and put in the jumper to wire up my lock up switch on my convertor, mine sets the same code.it sets 3 different trans. related codes, and the code youre getting also.all functioning of the alternator seems fine.i can unhook the switch, put the relay back in,clear the codes, and it wont set them again until i reinstall the switch.since the last time i installed the switch, codes are there again now,i just left it in and not had any problems for about 6 months now.i never get a light thrown but the codes are still there. any ideas on this one?
