So apparently today was one of those days I had my head where the sun don't shine. Was on the way to the store with the wife and stopped on an empty tank to fill up. Got back on the road and got about a mile down the road when the truck started running rough. I put the clutch in and the engine was dead and wouldn't start. Coasted to the side of the road and tried starting it a couple times, no luck. I had a bad lift pump last summer and have been worried my VP44 might go out at any time so I was thinking this is what happened. Checked the codes and had a P0460 and P1693. Wasn't till after we got towed home and I looked up the P0460 code that I thought "did I fill up with gas?". Went out and smelled the tank... gas. Went back to the station and they pulled the record and sure enough I filled the tank with gas.

I've read if you fill it and don't run it you can recover by draining the gas and filling with diesel and adding 2 stroke oil. Considering I actually drove the truck til it died, what do I need to do to work the gas out of the system and recover from this?

 

Drain the tank and fuel filter canister. Then some diesel fuel in the canister and some 2 stroke oil with fresh fuel. Good luck!

 

And change your fuel filter. Cross your fingers...

 

i would crack all the injector lines open pretty good to get the gas out of them and the pump. crank it it in short intervals in order not to burn the starter up until you smell diesel and then add the 2 stroke to the filter

 

My understanding is if the percentage of gas to diesel is high enough to make the engine die you're in luck.
Apparently it's the small amounts of gas that allow the engine to keep running that do the most damage.
Drain and fill with diesel and you'll be alright.

I filled a diesel tank with about 1/3 gas a few years back. I drove probably 15-18 miles before I finally pulled over and got towed to the nearest gas station.

I discovered the problem, drained everything in the tank, filled up with diesel, and drove it another 275,000 miles before I sold it! Never changed injectors, Inj. Pump or anything else on that engine in 365,000 miles.

I think the gas cleaned the injectors!!!

Do what's been suggested and I'd expect you to be fine.

 

I've siphoned all of the gas out, filled with 10 gallons diesel and about 2 quarts 2 stroke oil. I drained the fuel filter housing and replaced the fuel filter. Wasn't able to get to all the injector lines but cracked 3 of them and gave some short cranks. They now seem to have diesel coming out of them. I've been trying for a while now to get the truck to start but so far it won't. Tightened the injector lines back down. Not sure if there is everything different I can try to get it started.

 

A shot of ether works wonders to get it bled.

 

its probably still wont start cuz of the gas in the other 3 lines. is it even trying to run or is it just turning over

 

It isn't trying to start. Just turning over. Should I try the ether? And if so do I just spray it to the air filter?

Really hard to believe anyone could do this, should stick to driving gassers!
